Hi friends,
I am so estatic to show you my latest style. This past weekend I had the opportunity to style a quick weave in an a-symetrical bob with chinese bang. We actually decided to turn the quick weave into a wig (which is achieved by completing a few additional steps).
Drum roll please…..

Hi friends!
I have never been this interested in color. But our 7 week cirriculum has definitely perked my interest! I have colored a brunette to a blonde, a brunette to red-head (which you saw in a past post!), high-lighted, low-lighted! My next endeavor is making custom colors (chemistry mixed with artistry!) Take a look at how color can add some flare to some curls!
Original Color: Dark Brown
Final Color: Blonde
Curl: Loose Spiral

Original Color: Medium Brown
Final Color: Medium Brown with Blonde Highlights
Curl Style: Bottom – Flipped Curl, Top – Loose Spiral

Hi Friends!
I just can’t believe we are a few hours from beginning the month of April and that I have not added a new post since January!
Sorry for the wait…
…so since then I have learned more about chemical relaxers, permanent waving and soft curls! I even got the opportunity to execute the soft curl for a client and the results were GREAT!
Stay tuned I have some pictures to post of my work over the last several months!
Love ya!

As the winter rears it’s ugly head, most of us can’t wait until spring arrives. What’s the best way to get through the season? Remember all things do come to an end! But in the meanwhile, how about we start exploring the world of color for our amazing Spring look!
How about a vibrant RED!

Or maybe a GOLDEN hue!

A little to drastic…try lowlightening!

Hey there!
Today I am featuring on of my clients and friend Claudine with the Cornrow Braid Design. The no knot front give a natural finish and helps decrease the tension on your hair from the cornrows resulting in less breakage to the hairline. Claudine was able to sport this fresh do on her vacation in Jamaica. 4 weeks after I styled her hair, the cornrows were still in place and quite neat. Tell me what you think!

It seems as though 2008 though there were many laughs shared and many moments of joy, many suffered as well. Through there difficult times, those who are still here have proven that in the midst of the storm growth took place. I am amazed at strength, not only in me, but in those around me as well.
As I launch myself into this new profession, I have great expectations. I am currently in the process of using a product called Jane Carter Solutions. This product is said to use natural oils from God’s green earth. After I have tried it for a few months, I will put up my reviews and let you know where you can find it! So stay tuned!
School Update
We are currently on the haircoloring curriculum. I have highlighted and colored using different forms of application such as foiling, painting and others. In addition, I began learning how to determine the right color to use to achieve the end results which compliment the client’s complexion, hair cut and face shape. Last night I got the opportunity to color the front section of a mo-hawk! Stay tuned for pictures…

Currently we are on the cirriculum of haircoloring in cosmetology school. I never had a great interest in haircoloring but since I have been learning different techniques on applying hair color, I am really excited about learning more.
Funny thing is it goes back to elementary school when you learned about primary and secondary colors except now we are learning about tertiary colors and how you can use this to attain the color desired by the client or correct a color for your client.
In the upcoming weeks we will learn how to mix the colors to accomplish our goal…I am totally excited! Stay tuned to hear about what I’ll be learning.
Do you have questions, comments, concerns that relates to hair? Send in a comment and I will post a response specifically for you!

Welcome to Styles by Chaka! I am Chaka, of course. I currently have a blog, recently started, at http://stylesbychaka.blogspot.com. I am making a transition to WordPress to get a feel for the one I prefer better.
I am currently pursing my license in cosmetology in hopes to own my very own business one day! I am so excited because it took me 15 years to realize this is my calling! I see this not simply as a source of income but to utilize my skills to bless the lives of my clients as well as those whom are less fortunate.
On this site I plan on documenting my process through becoming an entrepreneur! You will find pictures of my work, tips on maintaining or achieving healthy hair, nails and skin. My forte is definitely focused on hair but as I learn more about nails and skin, I will be sure to relay the message to you!
Feel free to leave comments, questions, concerns and even tips! I am eager to learn new things as well!
Until next time…
~Chaka
